EU commercial vehicle registration data for the first half of 2023, released today by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), shows encouraging growth in the uptake of electric vehicles in the region. Here’s a recap of some of the key highlights:
Battery electric truck sales increased by an astonishing 351.5% compared to the same period last year.
Electric rechargeable bus sales increased by 33.9% year-on-year, with a market share of 14.4%, compared to 12.4% last year. This was driven by a significant increase of 755.9% in Spain and 89.9% in France.
Electric vans increased their market share to 7%, up two times (100.4%).
The data shows that while growth is gradual, the shift to electric vehicles is mirroring the changes in the passenger car sector – in June, the market share of new battery electric vehicles surpassed that of diesel vehicles for the first time.
As European governments continue to take important steps and strengthen their commitment to rolling out commercial vehicle charging infrastructure across Europe, these encouraging signs are another testament to the work that electric commercial vehicle manufacturers are doing to future-proof their customers’ operations.
